A crocodile attraction at Johnsons of Old Hurst zoo has reopened just nine days after a serious incident involving a three-year-old boy. The boy was reportedly thrown into the crocodile pit and sustained serious injuries during the attack. He is now in stable condition after being rescued by the zoo owner’s wife, who jumped in to save him.
The reopening of the Tropical House, which houses the crocodile enclosure, has been met with mixed reactions from the public. While some fans expressed relief and support for the zoo’s staff, the incident has raised significant safety concerns regarding animal enclosures and visitor interactions.
In the aftermath, a 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder but has since been released on bail. This individual, who was reportedly on a trip with carers, has learning difficulties, complicating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Additionally, an investigation is underway regarding the unauthorized access of the boy’s medical records by hospital staff, prompting a referral to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
