A 34-year-old man has been charged with five counts of attempted murder following a shocking incident in west London. Ahmed Timir is accused of driving through a red light at a pedestrian crossing in Ealing Broadway, striking multiple pedestrians and causing severe injuries, including broken facial bones and a broken pelvis.
Witnesses reported that Timir accelerated towards the crossing, where many pedestrians were lawfully crossing, before colliding with them. The impact was so severe that several victims were thrown into the air. After the initial collision, he allegedly crashed into stationary vehicles before fleeing the scene.
Emergency services quickly arrived to treat the injured, and Timir was arrested later that day. The incident has raised concerns about road safety and the potential for similar occurrences, highlighting vulnerabilities in urban traffic management.
While Counter Terrorism Policing initially investigated, the incident is not being treated as terrorism. Timir has also been charged with dangerous driving and failing to stop, and he is set to appear at the Old Bailey later this month.
