ScottishPower’s Delays in Solar Payments Highlight Consumer Vulnerabilities

A homeowner has been waiting over ten months for a feed-in tariff (FIT) payment exceeding £1,000 from ScottishPower. After moving into a new house with solar panels, the owner applied for the transfer of ownership and tariff but has faced repeated delays and lack of communication from the company.

This situation is not isolated; previous reports have highlighted similar issues, including a widow who struggled to receive payments after her husband’s death due to administrative failures. Such delays can significantly impact household finances, especially for those relying on these payments to offset energy costs.

ScottishPower has acknowledged service shortfalls and stated that ownership transfers should take eight to ten weeks, with payments following shortly after. However, the reality often diverges from these timelines, leaving consumers frustrated and financially vulnerable.

As the energy market evolves, these administrative inefficiencies raise concerns about the reliability of solar incentives. Homeowners may need to be more proactive in managing their accounts and advocating for timely payments to avoid financial strain.
