A fire at Stratford station has led to significant travel disruptions this weekend, with 46 train services cancelled. The incident, which involved a brush fire near the tracks, prompted a swift response from the London Fire Brigade, deploying eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters to manage the situation.
As a result of the fire, all train services between Essex and London are currently suspended. Engineers had to switch off power to overhead electric wires for safety, affecting major routes including those to Norwich and Southend Victoria. Passengers are advised to avoid travelling through Stratford, as the disruption is expected to last into the morning.
The fire was declared under control late last night, but emergency crews will remain on site to monitor for flare-ups. Approximately 1,400 passengers were evacuated from trains unable to enter the station, highlighting the scale of the incident.
This disruption not only affects daily commuters but also has wider implications for travel plans over the weekend. With major routes blocked, the knock-on effects could ripple through the network, impacting travel times and connections across London and beyond.
