The UK has secured its largest services deal with Switzerland, allowing British citizens to use e-gates at Swiss airports and eliminating roaming charges. This agreement is expected to significantly ease travel for both professionals and holidaymakers, enhancing convenience and reducing costs.

Starting from the end of 2026, UK nationals will be able to exit through e-gates at Zurich Airport, with plans for similar arrangements at Geneva and Basel. This move not only streamlines travel but also reflects a broader trend of increasing mobility between the UK and key European markets.

The deal also solidifies a services mobility agreement, enabling UK businesses to operate in Switzerland for up to 90 days without a work permit. This is crucial for UK firms looking to expand their services in one of Europe’s vital markets, potentially unlocking £5.2 billion in additional exports annually.

As travel resumes post-pandemic, this agreement marks a significant step in enhancing UK-Swiss relations, providing both economic benefits and improved travel experiences for citizens. The implications of this deal could reshape how UK citizens engage with Switzerland, making it a more attractive destination for business and leisure alike.
