Investigation Launched into Parking Fines at Petrol Stations

Drivers are facing a growing issue with parking fines while queuing at petrol stations, as the Competition and Market Authority (CMA) investigates Euro Car Parks. This inquiry aims to determine the fairness of issuing tickets to motorists waiting for fuel or other services, a practice that has raised significant consumer concerns.

The CMA’s scrutiny comes amid alarming statistics, revealing that 13.1 million parking tickets were issued in just nine months last year, a 19% increase from the previous year. Each ticket can cost drivers up to £100, leading to a staggering potential daily expense of nearly £4.8 million across the UK.

This situation highlights a broader problem with private parking enforcement, where drivers often feel unfairly penalised. The CMA has called for improved transparency and fairness in the appeals process, urging parking companies to comply with consumer laws. This could lead to significant changes in how parking regulations are enforced at petrol stations.

As fuel prices continue to rise, the last thing drivers need is the added burden of parking fines while simply waiting their turn. The outcome of this investigation could reshape the landscape of parking enforcement, ensuring that motorists are treated fairly and reducing unnecessary financial strain.
