Residents in Halkyn, Flintshire, are rallying for stricter regulations on large holiday rentals, known as ‘party houses’, following complaints about noise and anti-social behaviour. A petition, which has gathered over 1,500 signatures, highlights the disturbances caused by a £1.6 million property that accommodates up to 24 guests, disrupting the village’s tranquil environment.
Councillors Fran Lister and Simon Jones are spearheading the campaign, urging the Welsh government to implement stronger licensing for properties that host large groups. They argue that many of these rentals operate more like event venues, equipped with entertainment facilities that can lead to significant noise and disruption for local residents.
The proposed regulations would particularly target properties accommodating more than ten guests, allowing councils to enforce noise management and designate responsible managers. This initiative aims to protect communities from the negative impacts of high-occupancy holiday lets while still supporting responsible tourism.
As the petition progresses, it raises awareness of a growing trend across Wales, where similar complaints about holiday rentals are emerging. Without action, residents fear that the peaceful nature of their communities could be permanently altered, affecting their quality of life.
