From Instagram to Supermarket: A Social Impact Journey

What started as a late-night baking project by two neuroscience PhD researchers has transformed into a national brand, House of Cinn, now available in over 900 stores across the UK. The founders, David and Itse Martos, initially sold cinnamon buns on Instagram to fund community projects aimed at helping vulnerable populations, including those facing homelessness and social isolation.

Their business model is unique; at least 65% of profits are reinvested into social initiatives. This commitment not only supports immediate needs like meals for families in refuges but also fosters long-term community connections, which the founders believe are crucial for rebuilding lives.

House of Cinn operates as a Community Interest Company, ensuring that its profits benefit the community. Their partnerships with charities have led to various projects, from providing rent subsidies for women in refuges to funding workshops for individuals in temporary accommodation.

As the brand grows, the Martos couple emphasizes that quality must come first. They believe that while their social mission is vital, customers will only continue to buy their products if they are exceptional. Each cinnamon bun sold contributes to a larger purpose, creating moments of dignity and connection for those in need.
