Birmingham Mum’s Fundraising Transforms Emergency Care

Debbie Roscoe, a Birmingham mother, has raised over £400,000 to fund 18 Community First Responder vehicles across the West Midlands. Her charity, Arrive Alive, began after her daughter Ellie fell seriously ill, inspiring Roscoe to give back to the NHS. What started as a mission to fund a single vehicle has evolved into a significant operation that now supports local communities with emergency response capabilities.

The vehicles, which cost around £25,000 each to outfit, are crucial in providing immediate care during emergencies. They have already attended over 8,000 life-threatening incidents, often arriving before ambulances. This rapid response can be life-saving, as responders can use defibrillators and other medical equipment while waiting for further assistance.

Roscoe’s efforts have also led to the installation of 44 defibrillators and the distribution of hundreds of bleed kits. Her fundraising initiatives include events, sponsorships, and community engagement, demonstrating how grassroots efforts can significantly impact public health.

Looking ahead, Roscoe aims to fund a 19th vehicle and has set her sights on a 20th by 2026. The West Midlands Ambulance Service has praised her contributions, highlighting the profound effect her charity has on emergency care in the region. This story illustrates the power of community action in enhancing local healthcare services.
