Typhoon Noul has made landfall in southern China, particularly affecting Guangdong province and Hong Kong. With maximum sustained winds reaching 110 kilometres per hour, the storm has prompted the evacuation of over 715,000 residents, highlighting the region’s vulnerability to severe weather events.

The impact of Noul is significant, as it is the strongest typhoon to hit China this year. Authorities are now faced with the challenge of managing the aftermath, including potential infrastructure damage and the need for emergency services to assist those displaced.

Flights have been severely disrupted, with around 350 cancellations reported at Hong Kong’s airport. This disruption not only affects travel plans but also has economic implications for businesses reliant on tourism and transport.

As Noul weakens and moves inland, the focus will shift to recovery efforts and assessing the damage. This event serves as a reminder of the increasing frequency and intensity of typhoons in the region, raising concerns about climate change and its long-term effects on local communities.
