Residents in Newtownards are reeling after a series of linked arson attacks left family homes and vehicles damaged. The incidents, which occurred late on Sunday night, involved masked men smashing windows and attempting to set vehicles ablaze, creating a terrifying atmosphere for families, including children, who were present during the attacks.
The first attack targeted a home in Bristol Park, where the assailants used hammers to break windows and attempted to ignite a vehicle with a flammable substance. Just 40 minutes later, another home in Weaver’s Grange was attacked, with a petrol bomb thrown inside, igniting a sofa. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the psychological impact on the community is significant.
Firefighters were also called to a third incident on Victoria Avenue, where a minibus and car were set on fire, causing extensive damage to a nearby business. The Police Service of Northern Ireland is treating these incidents as linked and has increased patrols in the area to reassure residents and gather information.
