Final Journeys: Paramedics Launch Wish Ambulance Charity

A group of paramedics from Aberdeen has initiated Wish Ambulance Scotland, a charity designed to grant terminally ill patients their final journeys to meaningful locations. Inspired by personal experiences, co-founder Kieran Hutcheon aims to provide patients with the opportunity to visit places that hold special significance, such as a favourite beach or a family event.

The charity plans to use a specially designed vehicle that is less clinical than a standard ambulance, ensuring comfort while still being equipped for medical needs. This initiative addresses a gap in end-of-life care, allowing patients to create lasting memories with loved ones in a non-hospital setting.

Fundraising efforts are underway, with an initial target of £25,000 to cover start-up costs, including vehicle accommodation and medical supplies. The paramedics believe that these simple yet profound journeys can enhance the quality of life for patients in their final days, providing a sense of closure and joy.

As they prepare to launch, the team emphasizes the importance of safety and proper care during these trips. They hope to be operational within a few months, offering a compassionate alternative to traditional end-of-life care that focuses on meaningful experiences rather than clinical settings.
