New Apartment Development Proposed in Belfast City Centre

A planning application has been submitted for the construction of 253 apartments at the City Link business park in Belfast. This development, which includes four blocks with the tallest reaching 16 storeys, aims to address the housing demand in the city centre.

Notably, 51 of these apartments are designated as affordable housing, with plans for the Choice housing association to manage this portion. The project is designed as a car-free development, promoting sustainable transport options in a highly accessible location near Grand Central Station.

This initiative reflects a growing trend among developers to focus on residential projects in central Belfast, as previous office-led plans have faced criticism for lack of delivery. The proposal is seen as a step towards repairing what has been described as a significant tear in the urban fabric of the city.

With other residential developments underway, including a large project near the Titanic Belfast attraction, this new application could signal a shift in Belfast’s urban landscape, potentially reshaping community dynamics and housing availability in the area.
