Georgie Buxton, a 23-year-old aircraft technician for Virgin Atlantic, tragically died after sustaining a traumatic brain injury at Heathrow Airport. The incident occurred on June 11, when he was struck in the face while working on a Dreamliner jet. Despite undergoing multiple surgeries, he succumbed to his injuries on July 7 at St Mary’s Hospital.

The inquest into Buxton’s death has been opened and suspended by Senior Coroner Lydia Brown, pending the outcome of a criminal investigation by the Metropolitan Police and the Health and Safety Executive. This investigation aims to determine if any criminal charges will be filed related to the incident.

Buxton had been with Virgin Atlantic for two years, and his death has sparked discussions about workplace safety in the aviation industry. The coroner noted the severity of his injuries, highlighting the need for stringent safety protocols to prevent such tragedies in the future.

As the investigation unfolds, the aviation sector may face increased scrutiny regarding safety measures, potentially leading to changes in operational procedures to protect workers. The loss of Buxton serves as a stark reminder of the risks faced by those working in high-pressure environments like airports.
