Millions of state pensioners with severe asthma may be eligible for Attendance Allowance, a tax-free payment from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) worth up to £114.60 a week. This benefit is crucial for those whose condition significantly impacts their daily activities, yet many are unaware of their potential entitlement.
The DWP assesses claims based on individual needs rather than just the diagnosis of asthma. To qualify, applicants must demonstrate that their condition necessitates assistance with everyday tasks, such as bathing or dressing. This means that not all asthma sufferers will receive support, as eligibility hinges on the severity of their situation.
