Nearly a quarter of women have considered declining the role due to expenses, highlighting a growing concern over wedding-related costs.
Among those aged 25 to 34, this figure rises to 35%, indicating that younger women are particularly affected by the financial burden. Many bridesmaids report spending between £250 and £499 on their outfits, with a notable percentage covering these costs themselves. This trend suggests a shift in how women approach wedding attire, with a growing acceptance of second-hand options.
The survey reveals that 63% of women feel comfortable wearing previously used bridesmaid dresses, reflecting a cultural change towards sustainability and cost-saving. Additionally, 80% agree that reselling dresses post-wedding is acceptable, further normalising the practice of reusing formal wear.
As the average listing price for a formal dress on Vinted is just £11, this trend not only alleviates financial pressure but also promotes a more sustainable approach to fashion. With the most popular colours being green, pink, and blue, it seems that bridesmaids are finding stylish yet affordable ways to participate in weddings without overspending.
