NI Civil Service Launches Inquiry Following Donaldson Conviction

The head of the Northern Ireland Civil Service, Jayne Brady, has initiated a scoping exercise in light of Jeffrey Donaldson’s recent conviction for multiple counts of sex abuse, including rape. This inquiry seeks to gather testimonies from staff regarding any experiences of inappropriate behaviour during Donaldson’s tenure as a junior minister from 2008 to 2009.

Brady’s email to staff encourages both current and former employees to come forward with information, ensuring a safe and confidential process supported by senior HR and legal officials. This approach aims to create a trauma-informed environment for those who wish to share their experiences.

The inquiry is expected to conclude within six to eight weeks, with findings reported directly to Brady. This move highlights the ongoing efforts to address historical abuse within the political framework and may prompt wider discussions about accountability and safeguarding in public service roles.

As Donaldson prepares to appeal his convictions, the inquiry could uncover further implications for the Northern Ireland political landscape, potentially influencing public trust and the future of governance in the region.
