Reform UK’s Tough Stance on Illegal Working: What It Means for Britain

Reform UK’s home affairs spokesman, Zia Yusuf, has announced a new initiative aimed at making Britain a ‘zero tolerance’ country for illegal working. This initiative, dubbed the ‘Deliveroo Law’, proposes severe penalties for businesses employing illegal migrants, including potential jail time for company bosses. Yusuf argues that this crackdown is essential to protect British workers and restore fairness in the job market, particularly for young people who are currently struggling to find employment.

The proposed legislation highlights a growing concern over the impact of illegal working on the economy. Yusuf claims that illegal employment undermines wages and job opportunities for British citizens, particularly the youth. He points to the alarming statistic that over a million young people are not in education, employment, or training, attributing part of this crisis to competition from illegal workers.

Under the new law, businesses found guilty of employing illegal migrants could face fines amounting to 10% of their global revenues, a measure intended to deter companies from exploiting illegal labour. Yusuf’s rhetoric positions this initiative as a necessary step to reclaim high streets and restore order, suggesting that the current system is too lenient and has become a ‘soft touch’ for illegal immigration.

As this policy unfolds, its implications could reshape the landscape of employment in Britain. If successful, it may lead to a significant reduction in illegal working, but it also raises questions about the enforcement of such laws and their potential impact on businesses and the economy as a whole.
