The small village of Somosierra in Spain is gearing up for a significant influx of astrotourists as it becomes a prime viewing spot for a total solar eclipse on August 12. With an expected 2,000 visitors, the local council faces logistical challenges, including parking, water supply, and food provisions for the anticipated crowd.

This rare celestial event, the first of its kind in over 120 years, has sparked considerable media attention, leading to increased interest from both local and international visitors. The village, home to just 93 residents, is working closely with authorities to ensure safety and manage the expected surge in tourism.

To prepare, the council has enlisted volunteers and experts to educate them about the eclipse and its potential dangers, such as eye safety. This proactive approach aims to enhance the visitor experience while safeguarding the community.

Looking ahead, this eclipse is just the beginning; Spain will host two more significant eclipses in the coming years, positioning the country as a key destination for astronomical tourism. The economic impact is projected to be substantial, with an estimated €342 million boost in tourist revenue, highlighting the growing trend of astrotourism in Spain.
