Devon and Cornwall Police are urging victims of a luxury car fraud scheme to come forward for potential compensation. The fraud, orchestrated by Ravinder Randhawa, involved a fake website where he posed as a legitimate car salesman, deceiving over 150 individuals across the UK into paying significant sums for non-existent luxury vehicles.
Randhawa was sentenced to nine years in prison after stealing more than £1 million. His associate, Atif Shariff, was also implicated in money laundering and has faced further legal scrutiny. The police investigation has led to the identification of some assets that could be used to compensate victims, although the amounts may be small compared to their total losses.
Victims are encouraged to fill out a Compensation Registration Form to determine their eligibility. The police have already compensated over 30 victims but are seeking to identify more individuals affected by the scam between May 2018 and February 2021.
Amanda Alldridge from the South West Regional Organised Crime Unit stressed the importance of tracking down all victims to ensure they receive some restitution. This case highlights the vulnerabilities in online car sales and the need for consumers to verify legitimacy before making significant purchases.
