Health Risks of Vaping for Children Highlighted by Doctors

A recent report from the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health warns that vaping poses significant health risks to children and young people. The review, which analysed 81 studies, found links between vaping and respiratory issues, mental health problems, and even potential nicotine dependence. This raises concerns about vaping being a gateway to traditional smoking among youth.

Doctors are urging the UK government to implement stricter regulations on vaping products, including limiting flavours and making packaging less appealing to minors. Current proposals aim to reduce the visibility of vapes in shops, similar to tobacco products, but experts believe more action is necessary to protect children from nicotine addiction.

The report highlights that nearly one in five young people aged 11 to 17 have tried vaping, indicating a growing trend that could have long-term health implications. While vaping is considered less harmful than smoking, it is not without risks, particularly for those who have never smoked before.

As the government consults on new regulations, the urgency for comprehensive measures to safeguard children from the allure of vaping is clear. Experts stress that the evolving market requires ongoing vigilance to prevent a new generation from becoming dependent on nicotine products.
