A murder investigation has been initiated after human remains were found in Bedfont Lakes Country Park, south-west London. The remains, believed to belong to a woman aged between 25 and 45, were discovered by a member of the public following a wildfire that occurred earlier in August. The police were alerted to the scene on August 12, where a post-mortem examination later prompted the murder inquiry.
Detectives are now focused on identifying the victim and determining how long the remains had been at the site. The area surrounding the discovery had been previously affected by a grass fire, which damaged approximately two hectares of shrubland. The investigation is ongoing, with a police cordon in place as forensic teams continue their work.
Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley, leading the investigation, has urged anyone with information to come forward. The police are particularly interested in understanding the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death, which remains unclear at this stage.
