Power Cut Disrupts CrossCountry Rail Services Across Great Britain

CrossCountry has cancelled nearly all its train services in Great Britain due to a power cut affecting its control centre in Birmingham. This disruption impacts major routes, including those from Glasgow to Edinburgh and Manchester to Birmingham, leaving many passengers stranded or forced to seek alternative travel options.

The transport secretary has urged publicly owned operators to provide additional services where possible, highlighting the frustration faced by commuters. While some limited services are expected to resume later in the day, the majority of CrossCountry routes will remain suspended until further notice.

Passengers holding tickets for affected services can use them on other operators, with some companies like Chiltern Railways and LNER stepping in to assist. However, this incident adds to ongoing concerns about CrossCountry’s reliability, as it has faced criticism for delays and overcrowding in recent months.

As the situation develops, customers are reminded they may be eligible for compensation if their journeys are significantly delayed. This incident underscores the vulnerabilities in the rail network, particularly regarding infrastructure resilience and the need for improved communication during disruptions.
