Average earnings in Jersey have risen by 1.2% in real terms over the past year, according to Statistics Jersey. This increase, while positive, is notably lower than the long-term annual average of 4.2% recorded from 1991 to 2025, highlighting a trend of stagnation in wage growth.
The report indicates that the private sector saw a modest increase of 0.9%, while the public sector fared slightly better with a 2.9% rise. However, when looking at a longer timeframe, the public sector has experienced a 3% decrease in real earnings over the past 25 years, contrasting with a 1.2% increase in the private sector.
This slower growth in earnings may have significant implications for household finances, particularly as inflation continues to impact purchasing power. With earnings growth trailing behind inflation, residents may find it increasingly challenging to maintain their standard of living.
The findings stem from a compulsory survey of employers, marking the fourth consecutive year of data collection. As the economy evolves, these trends in earnings could influence future policy decisions and economic strategies in Jersey.
