A female migrant was rushed to hospital after arriving in Dover as small boat crossings in the English Channel persisted for a second day. This incident highlights the ongoing risks faced by migrants attempting the perilous journey, even in treacherous weather conditions.

On the latest day, 615 migrants crossed the Channel, bringing the total for the year to around 16,500. Despite heavy thunderstorms and strong winds, many continue to make the journey, raising concerns about the safety and health of those involved.

The Home Office has reported a significant drop in crossings compared to last year, yet the situation remains critical. The majority of illegal entries into the UK are made via small boats, with many migrants coming from countries such as Eritrea, Sudan, and Afghanistan.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood noted that while the government is making strides in managing the asylum backlog and reducing illegal entries, the situation requires ongoing attention. The focus remains on enhancing enforcement and addressing the factors that drive migrants to undertake such dangerous crossings.
