Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed over 40 employees for alleged corruption and financial misconduct. This move, revealed by EFCC chairman Ola Olukoyede, underscores the agency’s commitment to integrity as it combats financial crimes, including money laundering and fraud.

Among the dismissed staff, five are facing prosecution, with cases being prepared against others. This internal purge is part of a broader strategy to ensure that those fighting corruption within the agency are themselves free from corrupt practices.

The EFCC has reported significant achievements, recovering approximately 1.23 trillion naira ($923 million) and securing a 75% conviction rate. Between October 2023 and July 2026, the agency received nearly 50,000 petitions and filed over 14,000 cases in court, reflecting its active role in tackling corruption.

This development highlights the importance of accountability within law enforcement agencies. As the EFCC continues its efforts, the implications for public trust and the effectiveness of anti-corruption measures in Nigeria could be profound, potentially influencing how citizens perceive governance and justice in the country.
