In a remarkable turn of events, two workers have been rescued alive from a tunnel nine days after devastating flash floods struck Nepal. The workers, identified as Sanjaya Shah and Kabir Maharjan, were trapped in the Trishuli 3A Hydropower Project tunnel when the floods hit, leaving many others unaccounted for. Their survival offers a glimmer of hope amidst a dire situation where authorities believe up to 39 additional workers may still be trapped.

The rescue operation has been challenging, with rescuers reporting they heard voices from within the tunnel, prompting a focused effort to reach those still inside. While Shah was found with injuries but in stable condition, Maharjan expressed gratitude upon rescue despite being unable to move his limbs. This incident highlights the urgent need for improved safety measures in hazardous work environments, especially in regions prone to natural disasters.

The floods have claimed at least 1,200 lives, with over 4,000 individuals still missing, including 36 British nationals. The UK government has pledged £5 million in aid to support rescue efforts and assist affected families. As the situation unfolds, the emotional toll on families waiting for news of their loved ones underscores the human cost of such disasters.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by workers in high-risk areas and the critical importance of disaster preparedness. As rescue efforts continue, the hope remains that more survivors will be found, bringing relief to families and communities devastated by the floods.
