A Northamptonshire podiatrist has been struck off after demanding a 13-year-old girl remove her face mask during a consultation. Gary Denby, who ran the Foot Wise Podiatry clinic, was found to have created an obvious risk of harm to the nervous teenager, who was seeking treatment for verrucae.
The Health and Care Professions Tribunal Service ruled that Denby not only insisted the girl take off her mask but also subjected her to inappropriate dietary advice unrelated to her foot condition. His aggressive behaviour reportedly left the child in tears, prompting her mother to file a complaint just two days later.
The tribunal highlighted that Denby failed to adhere to health guidelines himself, as he did not wear a mask during the appointment. His actions raised concerns about patient safety and the responsibilities of healthcare professionals, especially during a pandemic.
