A police constable has pleaded not guilty to causing the death of a 16-year-old boy in a tragic e-bike crash. Ryley Hutson was riding his electric bike when the incident occurred on Chilwell Lane in Bramcote on September 28, 2025. Emergency services arrived but sadly pronounced him dead at the scene.

The officer, Daniel Cartwright, was off-duty during the incident and has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving. His trial is scheduled for January 11, 2026, raising significant questions about road safety and the responsibilities of drivers, especially those in law enforcement.

This case highlights the growing concerns surrounding e-bike safety and the legal implications for drivers involved in accidents with vulnerable road users. As e-bikes become more popular, the need for clear regulations and enforcement becomes increasingly urgent.

The outcome of this trial could set a precedent for how similar cases are handled in the future, potentially influencing public perception of road safety and accountability for drivers, particularly those in positions of authority.
