The latest entry, Look Mum No Computer, finished last in the 2026 contest, scoring just one point. This follows a trend where the UK has struggled to achieve respectable placements, with previous acts also landing near the bottom.
Dame Caroline Dinenage, chair of the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport committee, emphasised the need to understand the criteria for selecting UK entrants. The inquiry will explore whether the poor results stem from inadequate song choices, lacklustre performances, or other factors. The committee plans to hear from BBC representatives and music industry experts to gather insights.
Historically, the UK has produced many successful artists, yet this success has not translated into Eurovision triumphs. Over the past 15 years, the UK has only placed higher than 15th once, highlighting a significant disconnect between domestic talent and international competition success.
The upcoming hearing is part of a broader inquiry into the state of the UK’s music representation at Eurovision. With the next contest marking 30 years since the UK’s last win, the findings could lead to recommendations aimed at revitalising the UK’s approach to the competition.
