Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani has described the fallout from the US-Israel war on Iran as an ‘earthquake’ that threatens regional stability. Speaking at the UN General Assembly, he urged nations to respect sovereignty to avoid further escalation and highlighted the conflict’s far-reaching economic impacts.
The Prime Minister noted that discussions during the crisis frequently shifted from security to energy supplies and investment strategies, underscoring the interconnectedness of these issues. He acknowledged that while Qatar has maintained its economic foundations, the ongoing conflict is undeniably affecting the region.
In response, Sheikh Mohammed announced a significant shift in Qatar’s investment strategy, pledging over $38 billion towards domestic infrastructure over the next five years. This move aims to attract private investors and demonstrate Qatar’s resilience amid the turmoil.
As Gulf leaders prepare to meet with US President Donald Trump during the UNGA, the focus on regional stability and security is expected to dominate discussions, emphasizing the need for diplomatic solutions to ongoing tensions.
