A man has been charged with the attempted murder of a police officer in Downpatrick, Northern Ireland. Conor Carey, 36, faces serious allegations after a police officer was struck by a stolen police vehicle during an incident early on Sunday morning. The officer, who has sustained significant injuries including a broken wrist and leg injuries, remains in hospital receiving treatment.
The court heard that Carey is also charged with aggravated vehicle taking causing injury and driving without insurance. During the hearing, a solicitor for Carey challenged the severity of the officer’s injuries, suggesting they were not as grave as initially reported. However, the police have confirmed that the injuries are serious but not life-threatening.
