Protests Erupt Over Kushner’s Albanian Resort Plans

The proposed luxury resort on Sazan Island, linked to Jared Kushner, has ignited significant protests in Albania. Thousands have taken to the streets, expressing fears that the development will harm the environment and displace local communities. The Albanian government, led by Prime Minister Edi Rama, views the project as a vital step towards boosting tourism and distancing the country from its communist past.

Despite the government’s assurances, environmental groups are alarmed by the potential destruction of protected lands and the pristine Adriatic coastline. Activists argue that the focus should be on sustainable tourism that benefits local residents rather than transforming Albania into a luxury destination akin to Dubai.

The backlash has intensified as construction machinery has begun clearing land, with demonstrators clashing with security forces. Protesters are demanding the cancellation of the project and the return of land to former owners, highlighting a growing discontent with the government’s approach to development.

As the situation unfolds, the outcome of these protests could have lasting implications for Albania’s tourism strategy and its environmental policies, raising questions about the balance between economic growth and ecological preservation.
