A book of condolence has been opened at St James’s Chapel in Okehampton for three Royal Navy members who tragically died in a helicopter crash. Lt Cdr Chris Gayson, Lt Lily-Mae Fisher, and Petty Officer Owen Green lost their lives in the incident near Sourton, Devon, which has deeply affected the local community.

The book follows a special mass held at All Saints Church, where many gathered to pay their respects. Reverend Claire Reynolds noted the significant sadness felt in the town, highlighting the impact of the tragedy on both the families and the wider community.

Clive Higgins, chief executive of helicopter manufacturer Leonardo UK, expressed condolences and emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting the ongoing investigation. He acknowledged the bravery of first responders who attended the crash site, reinforcing the community’s collective grief.

As tributes continue to pour in, the book of condolence will remain open for a couple of weeks, with hopes that it will be presented to the families of the deceased and the Royal Navy, symbolizing the community’s solidarity in this difficult time.
