The Scottish government has announced a £1 million support package for residents evacuated from Coalsnaughton, a former mining village in Clackmannanshire. Nearly 100 properties have been evacuated due to ground movement and unsafe structures, leaving many residents in temporary accommodation or with family. This funding will assist Clackmannanshire Council in covering emergency response costs, including housing and welfare services.

First Minister John Swinney visited the area to assess the situation and expressed understanding of the stress faced by displaced residents. The funds will help ensure that those affected receive necessary support while investigations into the ground movement are conducted. Residents have been informed they cannot return home for at least eight weeks, adding to their uncertainty.

The Mining Remediation Authority is currently investigating the cause of the ground instability, which has raised concerns about the safety of the area. Local leaders have welcomed the swift response from the Scottish government, highlighting the importance of this funding in providing reassurance to the community during this challenging time.

As the investigation progresses, the focus remains on supporting the affected families and ensuring their needs are met. This incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by communities in former mining areas, where legacy issues can have immediate and profound impacts on residents’ lives.
