Jane Coates is urging authorities to reopen the investigation into her daughter Lucy Harrison’s tragic shooting death in Texas. Lucy, 23, was shot by her father, Kris Harrison, during a visit in January 2025. Despite the initial investigation suggesting possible manslaughter, a grand jury declined to indict him, leading Jane to question the thoroughness of the police inquiry.

The inquest in the UK concluded that Lucy was unlawfully killed, with the coroner citing Kris’s reckless behaviour. Jane believes the Prosper Police Department failed to conduct a rigorous investigation, particularly regarding the circumstances surrounding the shooting. She has submitted a formal complaint, seeking justice for her daughter.

This case highlights significant gaps in support for British families dealing with suspicious deaths abroad. Warrington South MP Sarah Hall has pointed out the challenges families face navigating foreign legal systems during such traumatic times. Jane is advocating for improved consular support from the Foreign Office to assist families in similar situations.

As Jane continues her fight for justice, she reflects on Lucy’s vibrant life and the impact of her loss. The case serves as a reminder of the complexities surrounding international legal matters and the need for better support systems for grieving families.
