Innovative Potty Training Method Saves Money and Time

Alison Roberts-Tse from Maidstone has successfully potty trained her son Ethan at just five months old, a feat typically attempted between 18 months and two years. This early training, known as Elimination Communication (EC), involves parents learning to recognise their baby’s cues for needing the toilet, allowing them to use a potty instead of a nappy.

The significance of this method extends beyond convenience; it can lead to substantial savings on disposable nappies, which can number around 4,000 during the early years. With many children starting school still in nappies, Alison’s approach could help alleviate pressure on teachers who report spending valuable class time on hygiene issues.

Alison’s technique includes tracking her baby’s potty usage and signals through a digital calendar, which helps her understand his patterns. This proactive approach not only fosters a sense of comfort with using the toilet but also promotes environmental sustainability by reducing nappy waste.

As more parents explore EC, the potential for widespread adoption could reshape societal norms around potty training, encouraging earlier independence and reducing the stigma associated with late toilet training. This shift could have lasting impacts on both family finances and educational environments.
