Protests Erupt Ahead of G7 Summit in France

As world leaders prepare for the G7 summit in France, thousands of protesters have gathered in Geneva to voice their opposition to the policies of the member nations. The demonstration, led by the ‘No-G7’ coalition, highlights widespread discontent with the perceived elitism of the G7, which includes the UK, and its impact on global issues such as climate change and inequality.

Activists argue that the G7’s decisions disproportionately benefit wealthy nations while neglecting the needs of the global population. This year’s protests are particularly significant as they reflect growing frustrations with US President Donald Trump’s leadership and the G7’s diminishing influence in a rapidly changing geopolitical landscape.

The protests come at a time when alternative global coalitions, like BRICS, are gaining traction, indicating a shift in power dynamics. The G7, once representing 70% of global GDP, now accounts for only 40%, raising questions about its relevance and legitimacy.

With heightened security measures in place, including roadblocks and business precautions, the protests serve as a reminder of the increasing public scrutiny facing international summits and the urgent calls for more inclusive global governance.
