Shirley Firth, a 94-year-old mother from Cambridgeshire, is hopeful for justice as a retrial for her daughter, Lindsay de Feliz, begins in the Dominican Republic. De Feliz, a 64-year-old author, was found murdered in December 2019, and her family believes new evidence may finally lead to a conviction.

The previous trial resulted in the acquittal of her husband and two others, a decision now under review by the Dominican Supreme Court. Firth has been actively following the case, sharing her daughter’s fears for her safety before her death, which adds a poignant layer to the ongoing legal battle.

De Feliz had a vibrant life, transitioning from a marketing career in the UK to becoming a scuba diving instructor in the Dominican Republic. Her passion for the country and its people was evident, as she often returned home with supplies for those in need. This retrial represents not just a legal proceeding but a chance for closure for her grieving family.

As the trial unfolds, it highlights the complexities of seeking justice across borders and the emotional toll on families involved in such tragic circumstances. Firth’s determination to see justice served reflects a broader struggle for accountability in cases of violence against women, resonating with many who have faced similar losses.
