London’s Black Cabs to Undergo Significant Redesign

London’s iconic black cabs are set for a major overhaul, marking the first redesign in nearly a decade. The London EV Company (LEVC) plans to launch its next-generation model in the latter half of 2024, promising to meet the stringent Metropolitan Conditions of Fitness set by Transport for London. This new model aims to enhance the experience for drivers and passengers while maintaining the black cab’s recognisable silhouette.

The current LEVC TX model has been a staple in London since 2018, contributing significantly to reducing CO2 and nitrogen oxide emissions in the city. With over 12,000 units sold globally, the TX has played a crucial role in transforming urban mobility. The upcoming model is expected to build on this legacy, focusing on sustainability and innovation in design.

LEVC’s commitment to the black cab sector is underscored by substantial investments from its parent company, Geely Group, which has invested over £1 billion since 2013. This financial backing highlights the importance of London’s black cabs in the broader context of urban transport and environmental goals.

As the new model approaches its launch, LEVC assures current TX owners that support for existing vehicles will continue. The anticipation surrounding the redesign reflects a broader trend in urban transport towards greener, more efficient solutions, which could reshape how Londoners and visitors navigate the capital in the coming years.
