New Air Passenger Rights: What You Need to Know

Recent reforms to air passenger rights in the EU aim to empower travellers significantly. With new regulations, airlines must now provide clearer information about passenger rights and streamline compensation processes. This shift is crucial as many passengers remain unaware of their entitlements, with a staggering 79% lacking knowledge of their rights under existing regulations.

The reforms also tackle the long-standing issue of compensation claims, which have often been complicated and time-consuming. Airlines are now required to pay compensation within 30 days and must justify any rejections. This change could lead to a substantial increase in the number of passengers successfully claiming compensation for delays and cancellations, which previously amounted to billions in unpaid claims.

Moreover, the new rules enhance support for passengers during disruptions, ensuring they receive necessary assistance, such as meals and accommodation, without additional costs. This is particularly beneficial for vulnerable groups, including those with reduced mobility, who will now receive guaranteed support if they miss flights due to service failures.

Overall, these reforms not only aim to improve the passenger experience but also shift the burden of administrative processes onto airlines, making it easier for travellers to assert their rights and receive the compensation they deserve.
