Two men have been arrested in connection with the management of mortuary services at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, raising significant concerns about operational standards. This development is part of Operation Perth, which investigates serious failings in maternity services that have already led to tragic outcomes for families.

The arrests come just days before the release of a major report detailing how these failings contributed to the deaths of babies and serious harm to families. This report is expected to reveal systemic issues within the trust, which has already faced scrutiny and compensation claims due to poor care.

Nottinghamshire police indicated that the arrests relate to breaches of the Human Tissue Act, suggesting potential misconduct in public office. This situation not only affects the families directly involved but also raises broader questions about the oversight and regulation of mortuary practices across the NHS.

As the investigation unfolds, families impacted by these practices are being contacted, highlighting the emotional toll and distress caused by these revelations. The outcome of this inquiry could lead to significant changes in how mortuary services are managed and regulated, impacting trust in the healthcare system.
