Beauty Pie’s LED Mask Ad Banned for Misleading Claims

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has banned an advertisement for Beauty Pie’s LED face mask, which claimed to be “clinically proven to reduce wrinkles in four weeks.” The ASA found that the evidence provided by Beauty Pie was insufficient, citing a small sample size of just 28 participants aged 30 to 65. This raises concerns about the reliability of such claims in a market where consumers are increasingly turning to at-home beauty devices.

The ruling highlights a growing trend in the beauty industry where companies make bold claims about the efficacy of their products without substantial clinical backing. As the LED beauty device market is projected to reach £600 million globally by 2032, the implications of misleading advertising could affect consumer trust and spending habits.

Dermatologists have pointed out that while LED technology is effective in clinical settings for conditions like acne and eczema, there is a lack of large-scale trials for at-home devices. This could lead to consumers investing in products that may not deliver the promised results, impacting their skincare routines and financial decisions.

Beauty Pie’s response indicated that their trial showed significant results, but the ASA noted that the absence of a placebo group and the use of additional products during testing undermined the validity of the claims. This ruling serves as a reminder for consumers to approach beauty product claims with caution and for companies to ensure their advertising is substantiated by robust evidence.
