A man charged with attempted murder in a serious knife attack in north Belfast has been advised to seek legal representation. Hadi Alodid, 30, appeared via videolink from Maghaberry prison during a brief hearing at Belfast Magistrates’ Court. The incident, which occurred in early June, left the victim, Stephen Ogilvie, in his 40s, with severe injuries, including the loss of his left eye.

The court was informed that Alodid faces multiple serious charges, including possession of a blade in a public place and threatening behaviour. The prosecution highlighted that further evidence is pending, including medical reports and mobile phone data, which could significantly impact the case’s outcome.

The judge emphasized the gravity of the charges and the importance of legal counsel for Alodid as the case transitions to the Crown Court. A hearing date is expected to be set in four weeks, marking a critical point in the judicial process.

This case underscores ongoing concerns about knife crime in Northern Ireland, prompting discussions about public safety and the legal system’s response to violent incidents. As the legal proceedings unfold, the implications for community safety and justice will be closely monitored.
