A man in his 40s has sustained severe injuries after being shot in the leg in west Belfast. The incident occurred around 21:30 BST in an alley between Falls Road and Ross Road, prompting a swift response from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) and the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service. While his injuries are not life-threatening, they are serious enough to potentially leave lasting physical and emotional scars.

Local MP Paul Maskey of Sinn Féin condemned the attack, highlighting the fear and disruption it has caused within the community. He emphasized that such violence is unwelcome and unacceptable, urging those responsible to reconsider their actions and the distress they inflict on local residents.

This shooting not only affects the victim but also raises broader concerns about safety and security in the area. The PSNI’s statement reflects the community’s anxiety, as incidents like this can undermine trust and stability in neighbourhoods that have worked hard to foster peace.

As the investigation unfolds, the community is left grappling with the implications of this violence, which serves as a stark reminder of the challenges that still exist in maintaining safety and cohesion in Belfast.
