A wildfire in California’s Big Sur region has dramatically increased in size, doubling overnight and prompting urgent evacuations. The Plaskett fire, which ignited earlier this week, has consumed over 5,900 acres in Monterey County and remains uncontained, according to Cal Fire.
Firefighting efforts are complicated by the area’s rugged terrain and limited access routes, making it difficult for ground crews to combat the flames effectively.
