At the Palace Cinema in Haverfordwest, a unique initiative is underway as children attending the screening of Toy Story 5 are encouraged to donate toys to a charity supporting local children with additional learning needs. The charity, SNAP Specialist Play, uses play as a therapeutic tool to aid early intervention and assessments for pre-school aged children.
The response to this appeal has been remarkable, with the cinema’s toy donation box filling up quickly. Cinema manager Hannah Cramp noted the overwhelming interest from the community, highlighting how families are eager to contribute to the cause. This collaboration not only fosters a sense of community but also raises awareness about the needs of children with complex requirements.
SNAP’s project manager, Cindy Jenkins, expressed gratitude for the partnership, emphasizing that all donated toys will be put to good use. The charity provides various therapies, including speech and occupational therapy, through engaging play sessions, making the experience enjoyable for the children while they receive necessary interventions.
The toy collection will continue until mid-July, with plans to distribute any excess toys fairly among other local charities. This initiative not only benefits the children directly involved but also promotes a culture of giving and support within the community, showcasing the power of collective action in addressing local needs.
