A new phone shop in Coalisland, Northern Ireland, was vandalised just one day after opening, with police investigating the incident as racially motivated damage. Owner Chaudhary Hamza Riaz expressed his heartbreak over the attack but remains hopeful, stating that the support from the local community has been overwhelming.

Riaz highlighted that the incident, which occurred overnight, is particularly disheartening given the shop’s fresh start in the town. Despite the vandalism, he noted that many locals have shown kindness, bringing flowers and messages of support, reinforcing a sense of community.

Political representatives have condemned the attack, with local councillors emphasising that such acts of racism have no place in Coalisland. They stressed the importance of welcoming new businesses, which contribute to the town’s vibrancy and economic growth.

This incident reflects a troubling trend in Northern Ireland, where race-related incidents have been on the rise. However, the community’s response suggests a collective rejection of hate, aiming to foster inclusivity and support for minority groups in the area.
