A Hertfordshire fruit farm is facing backlash over its Titanic-themed ride, which some critics deem disrespectful to the victims of the 1912 disaster. The attraction, located at Graveley Fruit Farm, features a replica vessel that tilts to simulate the sinking of the Titanic, a concept that has sparked a heated debate on social media.
Farm manager Will Campbell-Gray defended the ride, stating that it aims to keep the memory of the Titanic alive rather than mock the tragedy. He noted that the ride has generated interest in maritime history, particularly among young visitors, including those with autism who are passionate about the Titanic.
Initially, the farm attempted to address the complaints by rebranding the attraction as The Big Tipper, but this decision led to even more severe backlash, including threats directed at the farm’s social media manager. After careful consideration, the owners decided to revert to the original name, believing it to be a respectful homage.
The ride, constructed over three years at a cost of £1.5 million, utilises recycled materials and has become a point of contention, highlighting the delicate balance between entertainment and historical sensitivity. As the debate continues, the farm remains committed to educating visitors about the Titanic’s legacy.
