Coronation Street has paid tribute to director Kay Patrick, who passed away at the age of 84. Born Patricia Jackson in Hull during World War II, Kay began her career as an actress before transitioning to directing and producing, ultimately directing 259 episodes of the iconic soap from 1994 to 2015.
Kay’s direction was pivotal in creating memorable moments, such as the poignant final scenes of character Hayley Cropper, which actress Julie Hesmondhalgh described as infused with a ‘holy atmosphere.’ This sensitivity and understanding of storytelling contributed to the show’s emotional depth, showcasing the importance of behind-the-scenes talent in shaping television narratives.
